Murihiku Health Scholarships

The Community Trust of Southland in partnership with the Southland District Health Board (SDHB) has made available scholarship/training funds of up to $100,000 to support education for current or prospective Southland health personnel.

The study/training scholarships are for the purposes of:

  • Enhancing recruitment and retention of skilled health personnel in Southland.
  • Supporting all health providers in the ongoing development of health personnel to improve the service delivery of health services, and
  • Improving health gains for Southlanders in line with priorities as set out in the SDHB Strategic and Annual Plans.

Am I Eligible?

  • You need to be a current or prospective worker in the broad field of health service delivery who will commit to working for the benefit of Southland for an agreed period.
  • You need to be able to demonstrate that Southland will gain from the experiences you will gain.  “Southland” for the purposes of this scholarship fund is deemed to be the Community Trust of Southland’s specified area
  • The study/training funded will, where possible be in line with those priority areas highlighted in the SDHB Strategic and District Annual Plans.
  • The scholarship may be held concurrently with other outside scholarships or bursaries but is not proposed to be a substitute for government/SDHB funded training.
  • Priority will be given to applicants with a demonstrable financial need for assistance toward their study/training.

Funding may be available to cover the following:

  • Course fees and related administration costs.
  • Costs incurred in transport and travel for study.
  • Course materials.
  • Living costs while studying/training.
  • Compensation for loss of earnings (if applicable).
  • Other costs which the Trustees consider warrant funding.

Information for Recipients

Murihiku Health Scholarship recipients are required to supply CTOS with the following information prior to the payment of their scholarship:

  • a signed Acceptance form, agreeing to follow the course of study outlined in your application
  • Proof of course enrolment, or re-enrolment for subsequent years
  • a recent photograph (this may be used for promotional purposes)
  • a bank coded deposit slip
  • a progress report detailing recent achievements/highlights
  • Academic results for the year if your scholarship is to be paid in yearly instalments

On completion of your course you will be expected to:

  • Be bonded to work in Southland for an agreed period
  • Provide the Murihiku Health Scholarship Panel with a written report within 12 weeks upon completion of your study/training
  • Provide the Panel with an academic transcript of your results
