Premier Teams and Events Funding

The Premier Teams and Events Fund is part of the Community Trust of Southland’s support for premier sport, with the objective of supporting RSOs and other sporting organisations to meet the costs associated with running premier teams or hosting events.  The Trust allocates up to $100,000 to this fund annually, adjusted each year to reflect the effects of in inflation.

In assessing and considering applications, the Trustees will give consideration to, but not limited to:

General

  • Level of competition, for example: International; Trans Tasman; National; South Island; Otago/Southland; or Age group.
  • Level of economic benefit to Southland
  • Level of community benefit
  • Potential for external promotion of Southland
  • Level of benefit to organisation
  • Is there a financial need?

Teams

  • Is it a premier team for the organisation?
  • Level of success, for example: club level; provincial level; South Island; National.

Events

  • How regularly is the event held in Southland?
  • Number of spectators?
  • Visitors to the area?

Applications are considered in April each year with a closing date of 15 February.  However, funds permitting, the Trustees may consider applications outside of this annual round.
